Two summer schools will be held, one each year. Although targeted audience are primarily young researchers and PhD students from the project member institutions, we will try to attract researchers and students from other organizations and from European countries in general. Between 30 and 40 students are expected to participate at each school (around 20 from the Prosense partner organizations and the remaining coming from an open call). The schools will provide a mix of hands-on and theoretical classes. Time will be allocated for students to present their work (Student session) and get feedback from their peers and lecturers in an interactive manner.
The first summer school, entitled "Personal Health Care and Monitoring Application of Wireless Sensor Networks", focusing on Applications of Wireless Sensor Networks and Wireless Sensing in the Future Internet (senzations'08, www.senzations.net) will take place at the International Postgraduate School at Jozef Stefan Institute (www.ijs.si) in Ljubljana (Slovenia) from September 1-5, 2008. Prof. Aleksandar Milenkovic, originally from ETF and now at University of Alabama, Huntsville, will give a tutorial on applications of sensor networks in health monitoring and will share his experiences from implementation of a similar research platform. LMI will present Ericsson’s Mobihealth solution that is a result of an EU IST funded project (Mobihealth). The second summer school (www.senzations.net) was held in Metropol Lake Resort, Ohrid, Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, from 1st to 5th September. Reputable lecturers that come from both academia and industry, had thematic presentations covering different topics, like WSN applications and designing challenges, programming of sensor networks, integration of WSN with mobile networks, security in WSN, the role of WSN in Future Internet, etc. One more Summer School (on Applications of Smart and Connected devices) is co-organized by ProSense and other EU projects August 30 - September 3, 2010, Rijeka (Croatia). Special Sessions: The main goal of this task is to establish wireless sensor networking as a standard topic on conference agendas of WBC and EU convergence and outermost regions national and regional conferences. To achieve that, at least two special sessions (probably in Greece and Poland) on selected wireless sensor networking topics will be organized as a part of well established national and regional conferences. The following national, regional and international conferences (held at the region) are considered: IEEE Eurocon, ETRAN, Telfor and DCOSS 08, ETAI, ALGOSENSORS 09.
Special Session 1 colocated with the 4th IEEE International Conference on Distributed Computing in Sensor Systems (DCOSS '08) that was held June 11-14 in Santorini, Greece. Special Session 2 colocated with the 16th Telecommunications Forum (TELFOR '08), that was held November 25-27, 2008, Belgrade, Serbia. Special session 3 was held on September 17, in Warsaw, Poland, colocated with the 25th National Symposium of Telecommunications and Computer Networks (KSTiT '2009). Special Session 4 on Wireless Body Area Networks (WBAN) was held February 3-5, 2010, in Kranjska Gora, Slovenia, together with WONS 2010. Its aim was to address all issues related to using wearable/wireless and implantable sensors and to bring together scientists from computing, electronics, bioengineering, medicine and industry in order to discuss the latest technological developments and applications of body sensors.
